Press Release: Rotherham’s Community “Stars” Honoured As Award Winners

The Community Achievement Awards ? organised by Voluntary Action Rotherham on behalf of the Rotherham Partnership ? recognise and celebrate the work of individuals and projects which go the extra mile to improve the quality of life in their neighbourhoods and beyond.

Winners Whiston-based Lois Sykes, of the Parkinson?s Disease Society; Neil Newett of Action Housing Rotherham, and the Winthrop Park project at Wickersley, which provides nature therapy support to the disabled and elderly, were all celebrated at the awards ceremony at the Carlton Park Hotel.

Judges for the 2007 awards were Councillor Mahroof Hussain, RMBC Cabinet Member for Communities and Involvement; Brian Chapple, Chair of Rotherham?s Local Strategic Partnership, and Claire Knowles, of Rotherham?s own commercial radio station, Rother FM. All three told guests at Friday?s ceremony that choosing one from each of the category shortlists had been an extremely challenging job.
