A group of five ‘Active Citizens’ from
Bangladesh, Armenia, Romania and Egypt visited Rotherham.
British Council and international participants from five countries visited Rotherham in order to see first-hand the work Rotherham Council, Voluntary Action Rotherham and partners are doing to support our community.

The visit was arranged by Voluntary Action Rotherham as part of the British Council’s Active Citizens programme. The programme works with youth leaders, women’s groups, educators and faith leaders to run social action projects that have a positive impact on the community.
Councillor Mahroof Hussain, Cabinet Member
responsible for One Town One Community initiative, hosted the International participants
at Rotherham Town Hall. The participants
got a guided tour of the Town Hall and gained an understanding of how local
government works in United Kingdom.
Councillor Mahroof Hussain said “It was a great pleasure to host international participants on the British Council Active Citizens project for young people. The experiences the young people gain will put them in great stead on returning to their own countries”
