Local people are invited to take part in a Interfaith tree planting event, which is taking place at Boston Park off Boston Castle Grove in Rotherham this Saturday 22nd January starting at 11am.
The event, which is being organised by the council in association with REMA (Rotherham Ethnic Minority Association) and Rotherham Interfaith Group, will see seven trees planted, which will be representative of love and understanding between the different communities within the borough, as part of One Town One Community.
The tree planting will be led by Cllr Rose McNeely – the Mayor of Rotherham and Cllr Mahroof Hussain MBE, Cabinet Member for community development, equality and young people, with representatives present from the Christian, Muslim and other faiths in Rotherham.
The event will involve the planting of seven trees, which are representative of many countries across the world but which have a link back to Rotherham, as well as a tree native to Britain and Western Europe.
Councillor Mahroof Hussain from Rotherham council, said: “We are hoping as many local people as possible can join us on Saturday for this ceremonial tree planting. These trees were carefully chosen to represent the population of Rotherham and to symbolise peace and understanding between different groups. Our hope is that these trees will grow and flourish, as our community does in Rotherham and the event will provide a good opportunity to build understanding and unity between different faiths.”
